” Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.” Isaiah 9:7
2020 has been a year of societal and political unrest. Tension over long-standing racial injustice, national lament over precious lives lost as well as the disrespecting of law enforcement officers across the country, strife over the seating of a Supreme Court justice, a highly contentious presidential election…fueled even more by the inflammatory rhetoric we consume 24-7 through cable news and social media. We need to ask ourselves: “For what is the Lord Almighty zealous?” This passage reminds us that He is coming to reign and to rule with greatness…peace… justice…righteousness…nothing that we see in our human institutions. His government will not be like our government. His focus will not be like our focus. He lives to magnify Himself and His excellent qualities. And because we are His people, we should live to magnify Him as well! Our zeal- our energy and our focus- should be patterned after His zeal. We should be dedicated to sharing His name, the fruits of His spirit, and the gospel of His salvation. This is our one and only mission until he returns again to take his throne.
