“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
We hear this verse every year at Christmas. It’s a beautiful verse with descriptions of Christ that are amazing and very hopeful. This prophecy was given hundreds of years before Jesus was born, which demonstrates God’s specific plan. Jesus truly is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. He had these attributes before he came to earth, but God’s gift was to send Jesus to live among us as a man and to humble himself and sacrifice for us. Because of that sacrifice, he is our Prince of Peace. As we look at world events unfolding, we know that God has an equally specific plan for Christ’s return.
Lord, thank you for sending your gift of Jesus to earth for us! Thank you that he will reign forever in a kingdom without end. As we celebrate your birth, help us remember why you came. Amen.
